ABOUT ALAFIA

At Alafia, we envision a world in which every community in Togo thrives with access to quality education and healthcare, empowering individuals to overcome poverty and build a brighter future. Through our commitment to enhancing literacy, fostering learning opportunities, and advancing health initiatives, we aspire to create sustainable change.

OUR MISSION & HISTORY

TOGO'S CHALLENGES

Founded by a group of Returned Peace Corps Volunteers and educators, Alafia was born from our desire to continue the work we began in Togo’s Kara, Centrale, and Plateaux regions. During our service, we taught in schools, advanced nutrition programs, and supported health and agriculture initiatives, witnessing the power of communities when they are empowered. We carry that vision forward, strengthening communities through education, health, and sustainable programs.

Alafia goes beyond resource distribution to empower people through capacity building in the form of training and education.

Alafia means, peace, well-being and good health in several Gur languages spoken in Togo including Kabiye, Kotokoli, Ewe, Mina and Lamba and is an important part of greeting throughout the day. Alafia reflects a common cultural emphasis on peace and well-being across different languages in Togo.

OUR PARTNERS

At Alafia, our partnerships play a crucial role in achieving our mission. We collaborate with organizations, institutions, and individuals who share our vision for a thriving Togolese community. Together, we work towards providing sustainable solutions in education and healthcare, making a positive impact on people's lives.
